Mary "Dikes" Dix, daughter of Edward "Edward Deekes possibly" Dix and Jane Wilkinson.Born 02 May 1639 Watertown, Middlesex Co, MA, died 18 Jun 1675 Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA, 36 years http://www.edmund-rice.org/ERA5gens/p35.htm179 Mary Dix1 (F) b. 02 May 1639, d. 18 Jun 1675 Mary Dix was born on 2 May 1639 at Watertown, MA; (literally 3rdmonth) under the name Dikes. She was the daughter of Edward Dix andJane Wilkerson. Mary Dix married Samuel Rice, son of Deacon EdmundRice and Thomasine Frost, in September 1668 at Sudbury, MA; (not foundin the published records). Mary Dix died on 18 June 1675 atMarlborough, MA; under the name Rice, the Rice Genealogical Registerindicates Concord as the place of death and the year as 1675. Thedeath, however, is not found in the vital records of Concord. For thatmatter, the death is not entered in any other town's vital records, but it does appear in the county records with the place as Marlboroughand the year as 1678. Unfortunately, a 1678 death would conflict bothwith Samuel Rice's third marriage in 1676 and the 1678 birth of hisson Joseph (both recorded in Concord). Therefore, we must assume thatthere was either a copying error in the county records or possibly atranscription error in the published Marlborough vital records.2,5,6 The births of all three children of Samuel and Mary Rice are alsoentered in the Marlborough vital records under Samuel and his firstwife Elizabeth.7 Her married name was Rice. She was also known asDikes.8 Her married name was Brown. She and Samuel Rice retired duringthe King Phillip's War in 1675 at Concord, MA.9 Children of Mary Dix and Samuel Rice: Mary Rice+ (06 Aug 1669 - 22 Oct 1736) Edward Rice+ (29 Jun 1672 - 20 Jul 1741) Abigail Rice (10 Mar 1673/74 - a 1684) 1.
