Background of Iowa Territorial Pioneers Simon Davis, the father of Elizabeth, came into the background of theParker pioneers at the time one-eyed John Monoco, chief of staff toKing Philip, attacked Lancaster in August, 1675. Davis was lieutenantin the company of Capt. Thomas Wheeler, who selected him as one ofthree officers to take command when he was disabled and soon afterdied from the wound he sustained in defense of the settlement. Davis,then about forty years old, was the scion of two prominent families.His father, Dolor Davis, came from the county of Kent, on the EnglishChannel, as did his wife, Margery Willard. They were married thereMarch 29, 1624, when she was twenty-two years of age. Burke's "LandedGentry" [Section of American Families of British Descent] states thatDavis and his brother-in-law, Symon Willard, sailed for New England in1634 and that Margery, with her first three children, came the nextyear.
